VOCALIS MAKES SAFETY BREAKTHROUGH WITH HANDS-FREE DIALLING SYSTEM

Vocalis, the voice recognition and call processing specialist, has made a major safety breakthrough with its launch of SPEECHtel, voice dialling, is a revolutionary system that will allow drivers to make a telephone call on their mobile phone without taking their hands off the wheel.

SPEECHtel is an advanced voice-activated dialling system that responds automatically to voice commands so callers do not need to dial conventionally by pressing buttons. The caller simply speaks into the phone and tells it who they want to call; names and numbers are then stored in the memory for future use. SPEECHtel thus removes the need to remember telephone numbers and can reduce the overall time required to make a call.

The use of mobile phones in cars can be awkward and dialling can be dangerous; even with hands-free car kits, drivers have to take their eyes off the road to dial the number. Hands-free dialling by voice activation will enable mobile phone users to conduct business on the move easily and safely.

SPEECHtel can be installed into a company telephone network or for use with a personal mobile or cellular phone by cellular operators. Telecommunications network operators and service providers will benefit by offering SPEECHtel to their subscribers as a value-added service.

Commenting on the launch of SPEECHtel, Vocalis chief executive Jeremy Peckham said, "Up until now none of the 6 million mobile phone users in the UK have a voice-dialling facility and they have been entirely dependent on touch-tone dialling. With SPEECHtel, Vocalis brings to the market a service that promises to make life much easier - and safer - for people to use their mobile phones, wherever and whenever a call needs to be made."

SPEECHtel

On accessing the facility, SPEECHtel enables a telephone user to dial from a fixed or mobile telephone, simply by speaking the number or pre-programmed name. SPEECHtel can store up to 50 different telephone numbers. The user has to simply state the name and number once for their personal address book to log the information, making the process of building a directory fast and efficient. Once created, the directory can easily be modified. Because SPEECHtel is built on Vocalis’ leading speech recognition technology, users can enter any name or word they want, in many languages. If the user wants to call someone whose name they haven't included in their directory, they can simply say the telephone number and SPEECHtel will dial it automatically. The SPEECHtel system operates on the Vocalis Network Services platform.
