Vocalis SpeecHTML is judged Best Application by SCO at CT  '99

Vocalis, the Cambridge-based speech recognition telephony company, has won Best Application on the SCO partners stand at a major US telecommunications exhibition, CT EXPO 99, in Los Angeles (2nd - 4th March).

The application that won the award was SpeecHTML, the innovative service developed exclusively by Vocalis, which makes it possible for the first time to obtain information and interact with the Internet by telephone using spoken commands.

SpeecHTML, which is currently being piloted by a number of companies, is based on speech recognition, in which Vocalis is a world leader, together with text to speech (TTS) conversion. Vocalis has also used its expertise in the telephony arena to produce a gateway package that creates an interactive, wholly voice-driven way of accessing a Website.

SpeecHTML was judged Best Application at CT EXPO by SCO, who presented Vocalis with a trophy on the SCO stand at the exhibition, where a variety of SpeecHTML applications were demonstrated during the event.

The SCO award underlines the fact that SpeecHTML is a practical, working Web telephony product that is available for use now," said Mike Williams, Business Development Director for Vocalis. "The applications shown at CT EXPO demonstrated how effective a tool it is, and how straightforward it is to implement."

SpeecHTML runs under SCO’s Open Server operating system, and the two companies have formed joint marketing programmes for the two products.
