Vocalis Group plc, the speech recognition and call processing specialist, today discloses that the order it announced on 21st February 1997 was from Ericsson Infocom Systems. Vocalis’ systems will be integral to a new range of speech-driven telephone services to be supplied to a leading European telephone company. The value of the contract is worth in excess of £1 million to Vocalis.

The system, which is due to go live later this year, will provide the telephone company with more efficient customer services that people can use by speaking naturally. These include semi-automated directory enquiries, fully automated reverse-charge calling and call intercept services, with the capacity to offer further value-added services in the future.

"Since forming a global collaboration with Ericsson in mid-1996, our relationship has gone from strength to strength. Vocalis’ speech recognition technology is proven in practice, can fully integrate with Ericsson’s Network Intelligence™ concept and is designed to enable new services in the future."

Per Jomer, Vice President and General Manager for Intelligent Networks at Ericsson, adds, "Ericsson’s Network Intelligence™ concept focuses on user-friendly network services. Combining it with Vocalis’ Intelligent Peripheral gives the network operators competitive advantage by allowing them to automate the routine elements of call handling and to introduce new telephone services cost-effectively."
