Brazilian telecommunications operator Embratel orders Vocalis automated collect call service


Vocalis, the international speech technologies group, has won an order from Brazilian telecommunications operator Embratel. The order from Embratel is for an automated collect call service, and forms part of a major new installation of three call centres being implemented by Embratel.

Based on the Vocalis SPEECHtel telephony platform, the collect call service will operate for both national and international calls, and will significantly expand the capability of Embratel's network, as Peter Hauser, Vocalis Sales Director, explains.

"Automating the service through the use of SPEECHtel will allow Embratel to handle up to 70,000 collect calls per day. It would be uneconomical to achieve this with an agent-based, (non-automated) service. This order represents a further important move for Vocalis into the South American marketplace, and follows its recent appointment of BSA as distributor for Vocalis in Argentina."

To use the service, callers dial a specific number and the service replies, asking them if they wish to make a national or international call. The caller inputs their requirement including the number of the person they are calling. They are then asked to speak their name, which is recorded by the system. SPEECHtel dials the number required, tells the person answering that a call has been placed by the named person, using the recording, and asks the recipient if they will accept the call charge.
