Vocalis, the speech recognition and call processing specialist, has beaten off 1000 entrants to pick up an international award for innovation, from SCO, the world’s leading supplier of UNIX server and host system software.

The accolade was presented to Vocalis Group plc chief executive Jeremy Peckham, by Alock Mohan, president of SCO, at a gala dinner during SCO’s first UK partner conference at Elstree which was attended by 250 delegates. SCO has over 1000 partner companies in the UK, all of whom were eligible to win one of six awards presented on 30 January 1997.

"We were impressed with the way that Vocalis developed SCO’s server technology to create a platform for its speech-recognition based call handling product, Operetta," comments Bill Bateson, manager, partner development at SCO. "Vocalis combined its core knowledge of speech technology with in-depth IT expertise to create a novel solution that has created new market opportunities for SCO and our resellers."

Vocalis Group plc chief executive Jeremy Peckham said, "It is a delight to receive an award from the IT industry and a strong endorsement of Vocalis and its technology. Of the relationship with SCO he added, "When we chose a platform for Operetta we found the combination of SCO operating systems and Intel hardware ideally met these needs. I am in no doubt that we made the right choice."

Vocalis and SCO formed a reseller agreement in 1996 to market Operetta in the UK to small to medium size organisations with a need to improve their call handling and routing without increasing administrative costs.
